It's time to try soap in a new and different way!
Traditional soap products contain chemicals that can dry out your skin. Soap is actually a specific term for saponified natural fats (or oils) that have been turned into soap by being mixed with lye. When a synthetic material is used instead, like in store bought soaps, the resulting mixture is actually a detergent. That’s right, the traditional store bought ‘soap’ you are using is skin detergent! Yikes!
Handmade soap crafted from vegetable or animal fats is gentle on your skin because it encourages a natural pH balance. The glycerin it creates draws moisture to the skin, instead of pulling it out. Handmade soap also does not have all the additives that manufacturers use.
Don't be scared by lye! The process of soap making can be dangerous. Lye is a caustic chemical but after the measured amounts of lye and oils are combined at specific temperatures, saponification happens and the end result is a perfectly safe soap. Once saponification happens, the soap needs time to cure (or harden) which draws out the excess moisture for a longer lasting soap. Curing takes about 4-6 weeks and the end result no longer has lye. It is just good, natural, safe soap!
You will be amazed by the way your skin looks and feels!
